Author: waukeshaplumbing (WI)

I have a service call today and the homeowner is having issues with the cold water being hot

in the past its been a toilet mixing valve....I don't think this house has one

what else could cause this cross over?

thanks!

Check valve in a recirc. Bad single handle cartridge. Bad thermostatic mixing valve.

Sure.....Get behind the escucheon...run the water in the basin, and you should feel the cold side get noticably warmer if it's crossing there.

Yes, the most common valves it occurs with are Mixet and Moen. If it is a Mixet, it is almost impossible to cure it, unless you buy the aftermarket "Nomix' cartridge, which converts it to a Moen style unit.

so any single handle faucet or tub/shower mixing valve could be the culprit?

its a simple 1 bath house....so it should be easy

thanks

NO, only certain types CAN cause it. Delta and Kohler, for example, cannot cause it.
