 shower p-trap flows through
Author: ataloss (UT)

I started smelling sewer gases coming from the upstairs shower. I checked the drain and it had no water in it although we had been using this shower regularly. I poured water down the drain and the water syphoned through. also the toilet acts like its trying to suck air when its at the end of flushing, any reasons as to why this wound happen?

NO, because I would have to be there and see exactly what is happening, because you could be describing your "perceptions" rather that what is actually happening. A second floor shower drain should NOT siphon the water out of the trap unless it is installed improperly.

COULD be, but would be really rare to happen to an upstairs toilet/shower/bathroom.

I checked the vent, it is not blocked.

The only thing I can think of is the p-trap is installed wrong. we had a remodel to that bathroom a couple of years ago I just don't know why I didn't smell it before now.

a slight blockage could be possible. that might explain the toilet. thanks for everyone's input.
