Hi Everybody,
I've got a 200' loop on the second floor with two, one bedroom apartments on it. Both places are kitchen, bath, shower. It would be wonderful if there was a medium priced way to do the heat and domestic with a single propane fired unit. I've got a closet on the floor below it can go in. I would also consider an on demand type if there is one large enough to do the job.
Any suggestions?

Navien makes a great combi unit tankless water heater/ wall hung boiler. Navien ch 210 lp would be the model I would recommend.

Combi units can work great, but you need to do a heat loss. The Navien units have an onboard circulator. There is a lot of debate between heating pros and the manufacturer, as to how much these units can actually provide for home heating. The argument is simple...The circulator has a fixed gpm.Applied heat to a fixed flow can only provide a certain amount of btus. The pros claim it is much less than the manufacturer states.
That's not to say that it wouldn't work well for you. You need a heat loss done to see if it works. You need to size the boiler correctly, or you might as well stand next to the boiler and burn Ben Franklins.

Paul the built in circulator pump is meant to be used for the primary loop or space heating in the Navien's. I agree the proper way to size the unit would be a heat load calculation.

Plumberpalmer......The secondary side can only take what is presented to it on the primary side. The ratings they show for the CH's, is for DHW. If you look at the recommended circs for most modcons piped pri/ sec they are large. They are pumping, two times , or better what the CH is, at about 5 gpm.The reason is to move the btus out of the boiler. It's highly debated, but the Universal Hydronics Formula doesn't lie.
