 Bendable copper pipes
Author: Tdeblai (FL)

We are remodeling a house and the existing plumbing was done in the 50s. Soft copper bendable pipes were used. Would it be okay to leave them or do they have a tendency to leak?

glad to hear

ps. for the unknowledgeable among us

"M" is just fine for sealed systems with no continuous introduction of dissolved oxygen
(such as heating, refrigeration, fire suppression, etc.)

Soft tubing does NOT come in type "M" which would make it thicker than the typical tubing used for residential plumbing.

AND it HAS been approved, and used, for residential water systems since the 60s.

correct, "M" (wall=0.22) is only available in 'sticks'

however, most commercial refrigeration is run with 'sticks' - and is manually purged with nitrogen WHILE brazing

a 'stick' being a 21' length of tube

"M" meets the MINIMUM code requirement of 'fit for human occupation'

would one not want MORE for one's own home ?

I have NEVER seen a "stick" that was longer, or shorter for that matter, than 20'

20' is standard length for metals including pipe. Those get cut in half for the big box stores, why you see 10' as their "standard".

Black pipe is 21' long, copper is 20

Almost all, if not all, steel pipe comes in 21' lengths, unless it is the "extra long" version which is 40'.
