 Noisy PVC pipes

2FL toilet connected to a 3" PVC that runs down a "wet wall" between the liv rm and master bath on the 1FL. No issues whatsoever with operation or leaks, but whenever you flush the 2FL toilet the water dropping down the 3" PVC is so loud you expect to see if coming out of the ceiling. Do they make any kind of sound insulation for PVC drains?

The best fix is to replace the PVC with cast iron.

If you don't want to expend resources to that extent ... I have noticed since we insulated a wall that has a toilet stack in it, it is quieter. Not quiet, but quieter.

The area around the 3" PVC pipe is filled with dense-packed cellulose, and the cellulosed area is now sealed off from a plumbing access panel by expanding foam. So there's less space for the sound to echo through, I suppose.

Just wrap the pipe with fiberglass insulation batts.
