 CSV vs. large pressure tank
Author: C. Clemm (FL)

New at this site bear with me.
Our pressure tank went, hole rusted in it, have to replace it.
My question is, which is going to better in the long run, replacing the existing tank, or, installing a CSV and smaller tank?

i'm a city boy and don't see wells at all around here.
but, i did read up on CSV's and they sound too good to be true.
it did say the pump must be sized to provide enough GPM for your maximum use.
this is what i read..

I installed a CSV (Cycle Stop Valve) and a new 34 gallon pressure tank 2 yr 8 months ago as part of my deep well system. I would recommend a bronze or stainless steel valve - not a plastic valve. CSV valves are on Ebay from highly rated sellers. I would not get a new tank smaller than aprox 34 gallons as I would not want the pump to cut on every time a toilet is flushed. The CSV will prevent the pump on/off cycle and help maintain a constant pressure when showering etc. This is a big + IMO. It is the pump cycle on/off that wears out a pump of course. Google CSV and check out the manufactors active website.

Note that with a (my) CSV the pressure tank pressure should be set at 5 psi below the pressure switch cut on setting - NOT the usually 2 psi.

Checked out costs etc. CSV system would be over budget for sure. Lived with pressure tank for 30 + years, best for the buck.
Retired plumber but, unless they are a new concept, never had experience with CSV's.
LOL. From what I heard 8 years ago, they don't even use vented waste systems anymore, at least not what I had previous experience with and, the water systems themselves have changed also, something called manifolds.
Time marches on.
Thank you for all your help. Now if I can remember where I laid that 24" pipe wrench.
