I need some practical advice on selecting the best brand/model of pressure-balanced rough-in valve and cartridge for a tub and shower combo. Doing a full remodel and want to do it only once. We do have a high mineral content in the water here.
The Delta valve in place now leaks even after a plumber replaced the cartridge. From the staining on the existing shower enclosure, it it clear that has long been a constant. Reviews seem to echo this observatiion, Deltas leak a lot. Feedback from retailers and one plumber say Kohler deserves its bad customer service reputation.
So, within a $600 +/- budget for the valve and trim, what brand/model would a pro install in their home for best results and utter reliability?

I have installed hundreds of S-96-2 symmons tub and shower valves.
they are very popular in the northeast. they carry a lifetime guarantee.

I have NEVER seen this in reviews, or in person. Delta is the one I recommend and the ones I have in this house have lasted 14 years without leaking at all, much less "leaking a lot". Your facts are faulty.

I prefer Delta. Whatever you choose, it should carry a lifetime "drip-free" warranty.

Physically they are the same, but my experience has been that they apparently miss the final inspection stage, and let the consumer do the inspection. If the item is kept and used, even if defective, they made money on it. If it is returned, the consumer wastes a lot of time installing, removing, and reinstalling it, and the company loses nothing because they would have had to discard it anyway.
