 2nd Floor baseboard heating issue
Author: markmac (MA)

Hey folks, first time post. I will try to keep this short. Had leak in pressure release valve on water intake in basement. Replaced it yesterday ($32 Lowes). No more leak, but now baseboards on second floor not heating up. Water temperature is fine. Hot water works on first and second floor fine.
So after checking out system, I found that second floor hot water line is hot to touch from boiler-Taco zone valve, but increasing cool moving upwards above Taco zone valve.

Does this mean valve is bad, OR maybe air in lines? Which is more likely?

Mark

If theres pressure in the boiler, then most likely the problem is air. I assume you have verified that the pump is running.

Pump sounds like its running. I have looked at videos regarding proper air purging. Trouble is, my system doesn't seem to fit anything I have watched.

1 - my baseboards do not have pressure relief valves on them (closed system?).
2 - the taco zone valve is on the water line running up to second floor. Above the taco valve is a water shutoff valve and a drain spicket.
3 - I have already released air from water expansion tank top.

What are proper steps for purging air based on this?

Basically you turn the valve that's above the zone valve off and open the spicket. Be sure and keep an eye on the pressure gauge, don't let it get too low. The pump needs to be running. The zone valve is on the return ?

Thanks...The water shutoff valve is on the outgoing water pipe (after it leaves boiler) running up to second floor, located above the taco zone valve.
When I shut off that valve and open spicket, some water comes out, then stops completely.

can you post a picture or two?
purging a zone is really simple to do but hard to describe without knowing how the system is set up.
