 potential water heater problem?
Author: Maxomom (CA)

About 3 minutes into my shower today I noticed that the water was not as warm as usual so I moved the shower trim lever attached to my shower valve to the warmest setting and within another minute or so I had barely lukewarm water for the duration. After the shower I checked a bathroom faucet and kitchen faucet and same deal - lukewarm water at best. Went out to my (natural gas) water heater and the burners were not running as they typically do when hot water is being depleted. Pilot light was on. Turned the dial on the water heater to the "light pilot" setting and then back to the hot water setting I usually use. The burners came on immediately and are running now. Was this a one off situation or signs of trouble brewing with my hot water heater?

yeah, it is trouble brewing.
it is not dangerous nor will it blow up but rather it is a major aggrevation.
2 solutions..
replace the gas valve.
replace the heater.
if you can read the serial number on the sticker on the side of the heater, the date of manufacture is most times encoded into that number.
