 Gerber 3 valve shower
Author: orion memphis (TN)

When I turn on the hot water, water comes out and then I hear it hydraulic for a second or two. When the hydraulicing stops, rather abruptly, the flow immediately slows, sometimes to a trickle. The cold water flow has been reduced as well. When I divert to the shower, it seems to have good flow. The water heater is 3 years old and the house sat vaccant for 2 years with all utilities connected including the pilot light on the water heater. I had good flow when I moved in however had a lot of discoloration in the water lines to flush out. I assume this is the culprit. I have been here a week, would a good drain/flush/refill of the water heater be warranted or not really nessesary and what is your conclusion on the water flow issue? I'm thinking, replace the diverter.
Thanks.

it sounds like debris in there somewhere. it also sounds like an easy fix. maybe a piece of the washer from the diverter has come loose and lodged in the pipe going to the spout????

I agree. Or debris from something has lodged in the diverter. The sure thing is, it's gotta come apart. So, I will start there and post my findings.

Packy is correct, after 2 years the washers have became brittle and I'd say a piece of one is loose. I'd replace all of the washers in the faucet and flush it out good while it was apart. Now would also be a good time to drain and flush the water heater.
