A neighbor has a trailer that has been sitting vacant for a while and the traps have dried out. Little sewer flies are everywhere. I'm thinking that pouring some RV antifreeze into the sink, lav, bath traps will help. Never used the stuff before. I'm thinking of shutting off the toilet supply, flushing the toilet, filling the tank with A/F and flushing again.
Any idea how long the A/F will last and is it a good choice? The Trailer is on a septic sytem. I hope it will not kill the beneficial bugs in the septic system.
Any comments?
Many Thanks to all.

according to this there are different blends of AF. i used to put some into my motorhome water tank and run it through the piping but flushed it out in the spring.

according to this article, RV-AF is not safe for septic systems.

From what I have read about RV antifreeze, and my experience is that the small amounts that you will use to put in the traps and such is not enough to cause a problem. They do make natural enzyme products that you can dump in your toilet when you turn you water back on, and flush it through. Propylene glycol has a larger oxygen depletion then sewage. But you are not going to use alot in the first place.

It will last until someone runs water in the fixture, but do NOT fill the tank and flush the toilet, just flush the tank and then pour the antifreeze in the bowl and some in the tank to mix with the residual water.
