Normally I'm really good about researching products before purchasing them. However I didn't do my homework when it came to buying a new shower faucet for the remodel I'm doing at my cabin. I bought a new Pegasus Estates Series shower faucet set for the new stand up shower I installed. Once we had all the plumbing hooked up we tried it and it immediately started to leak at the shower head. After taking the cartridge in/out several times trying to figure out what was wrong I gave up.
I called the Home Depot line and they were very good about sending me out a new cartridge and spool. I put them in and turned on the water. I was happy to see it didn't leak at all.........well until I cycled the water on/off one time and sure enough it started leaking again.........grrrr. It's not leaking as bad as it did the first time but it's still a steady drip. I really don't know what the problem could be. Could the valve body itself be a culprit? The only place it leaks is through the shower head.
I have two options. I do not have the plumbing covered yet but I will be installing knotty pine on the backside of the shower wall very soon which will cover it. After these problems I'll probably make an access door so I can get to it in the future if need be. Preferrably I'd like to fix the faucet as long as it will be dependable. Or I can get a new faucet altogether. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Brad

generally a shower valve can be rebuilt. changing the cartridge will usually solve the problem.
in your case it didn't help. since you have access, i would just change the whole valve for another brand.

I agree with Packy.... for peace of mind and hopefully .. a shower that works and doesn't drip.

You only need an access door to change the valve, so if you change it now, you should not need the door.

Replace it with a Delta, it'll be easier to do it now rather than later. I all but refuse to install Pegasus faucets on tubs or showers. Now if its a kitchen or lavatory I'll go ahead and install it seeing how it will be easy to replace in a year or so.

you cant get much of a lower brand name than Pegasus...definitely below average quality
get a Moen or Kohler valve....if your having issues already you dont have a chance
ive had issues with a few Pegasus valves also...junk

Once again I've said it again Pegessas is junk get a new faucet Price Phister Delta Moen etc. But if you want to fix this crap faucet take the valve body guts out and stretch the springs. Unfortunately or not this will fix the shower head drip.
