I have a delta tub faucet that I installed by sweating a collar on to the copper spout for the bath faucet. It is a standalone tub (no shower) but we screwed up and bought a spout with a diverter.
Apparently, I did not get a good seal on the collar (I did not realize it head to be completed sealed even though I was looking at an o-ring channel- duh) since when the diverter was pulled water started leaking at the back of the spout.
We have ordered a new delta spout with no diverter and my question is does the collar have to be "sealed" if the spout has no diverter?
If so, do you have any recommendations or techniques to get it sealed as I had a hard time even getting the collar solidly solder to the copper outlet?
Thanks in Advance,
Mike

Yes, the adapter has to be "sealed/sweated" to the copper stub, but there should be no reason why it should be so hard. It does not have to be against the wall, in fact it is always installed at least 1/2" away from the wall. But you have to remove the "O" ring before you solder it.

all the Delta collars ive seen are threaded...ive never seen a sweat one
id just go to home depot and get a normal tub spout...it doesnt matter if it has a diverter or not....as long as you capped the shower outlet where's it gonna go?
its much easier to get a normal tub spout than to find one w/o a diverter
go to home Depot and get a Moen tub slip spout and be done

The Delta spout adapter has a 1/2" fip opening, but it also slips onto and sweats to a copper stub.

The Delta spout with the sweat brass adapter is in my opinion the best on the market, the Moen slip on ,try to tighten with an allen wrench- not so good.

Delta also makes a "slip on spout", which has an internal O-ring and a set screw. No soldering required.
I actually prefer these because in this pex era we now live in, I hate getting my torch out on a finish for just a tub spout(s).
Wauk, are you still using drop ear FIP adapters and brass nipples for the spout? I haven't done that in years.

You do not have to solder the adapter on. Just install a drop ear ips elbow and use a brass nipple. It does NOT have to be a precise brass nipple either. Slip on spouts must be a Home Depot item, because none of the Delta valves I have bought in the past several years have had them in it.
