Great cold water pressure, hot not so
Author: Turbogus (OR)

New home (for us, built in '68 with updates since), during inspection flow check at all faucets and showers~all okay.
One we (I followed the inspector, even in the attic and crawlspace) didn't check was the flow of the hot water at the washer/dryer hookup.
When my wife and I moved in and I hooked up the w/d and dang, no hot water. Pulled the fill hose and the screen had caught a bunch of sediment and other crud. Cleaned it out and it began working fine. Drained and flushed the water heater but not before the kitchen and bathroom sinks had been polluted. Cleaned out the areators but flow is still diminish on the hot side, cold is fine. I'm reckoning that the cartridges are similarly fouled with crud, am I on the right track?

generally, the "crud" you get from flushing a water heater is more of a fine grit or even just a rusty discoloration. certainly not enough to foul the cartridges in the faucets.

I think you are on the right track, but need more verification. I'd pull some more stems or cartridges and flush the pipes as much as you can. How long was the house idle before you moved in? Was it a repo? Was the house properly mothballed?
Make sure all the valves are opened.

Best Wishes

Thanks for the responses folks! (tu)
I've encountered similar crud in a couple of rentals I first moved into when I lived in Coos Bay. As far as I know this home had been vacant from possibly December, we moved in early this month. I'm thinking that this would account for the accumulation of sediment. Last week I downloaded a .pdf from Moen on disassembly of their faucets and cartridge replacement and watched a couple of YouTube vids on procedure. So far it seems pretty straightforward, but I'll post more as I get into it later next week. Keep the dialogue comin'....
