Recently I've had plumbers--on two occasions--work on my main sewer line; once to remove a trap and later to snake the line. Both guys left sewer sludge on the basement floor. Is there a reason they won't touch it? Is it an OSHA thing?

No, sometimes it is easier to clean it after it dries, otherwise it just smears around.
