 Delta bathroom sink strainer
Author: ssabourin (PA)

I just installed a new sink and purchased a delta faucet with strainer.
i installed the stariner with plumbers putty, all went well with the exception of one thing,
i have a small weep (i mean small, water appears after a few minutes or so) around the threads under the sink.

The nut is tight,i do not want to tighten any more (i am afraid that i will crack the sink).

Please advise

sincerly Scott

Thanks for your help.

If i use silicone, should i let it dry 24 hrs before testing for leaks?

Thanks again
Scott

apply the silicone under the flange and ontop of the black rubber washer that seals against the bottom of the sink.
clean up any excess with denatured alcohol.
no waiting period to turn the water on..

arent those plastic drains from Home Depot nice?

i have had a couple of them that wont seal....redo the drain, use plumbers putty on top and use pipe dope around the rubber under...the dope will grease it up and keep it from binding...odds are thats whats happening..

if it wont seal after that then buy a metal drain from a plumbing supply house

Please do apply telfon type pipe dope on the tubing where the under the sink gasket rests on the drain tube. The large black beveled gasket often deforms to seal to the sink gaping slightly at the drain area.silicone also works but this is not a place for putty.

I always apply silicone to the threads before sliding the bevelled washer on. This prevents water from working its way thru the threads.

P.S.There is no waiting time for any thread sealant that works.it is water proof or failed!!.
