We bought a house with a steam shower; however, the previous owner never gave us a manual. So we turned it on, we hear water running, but no steam comes out. It runs for at least 10 minutes, and then cuts out. We tried it a few times, but no luck. We emailed the manufacturer, but no response? Any ideas? And do you recommend that I call a plumber to fix it?

Mr Steam? Which brand do you have? A steam unit is a precious vessel that must be maintained each season. Much depends on the Model and Age of the unit and the quality of your water source. Raw water enters and is converted to steam. Any debris, scale, minerals and residue are left in the steam vessel. The vessel must be blown down to release anything left in the steam vessel. The units should also be serviced by a certified factory every 5 years as some repairs can not be done on site. Worse case, the unit is removed and sent to the factory for cleaning and restoring. Welcome to the world of Steam Showers. I always suggest filters on the water source before the vessel.
Good Luck and....
Best Wishes

call which ever brand name it is and ask for the local repair company
your average plumber will have no idea how to fix it...you need a specialist

It should NOT take 10 minutes to fill the small resevoir on a shower steam unit. Actually, if it does not automatically blow down after every use, then it should already be full. As far as the steam itself, it could be a burned out heating element, or a faulty circuit board, among other things. IT may not be a DIY repair.
