 basement toilet
Author: jys5059 (PA)

I found what looks like two drains in my basement and was wondering if i could install a toilet in one of them. There is one with a blank cover that looks glued in and one below that with a cap that has a screw type fitting. Here is what they look like.

One is a cleanout and must be left as is. The other is anyone's guess! You need to find out what it is and where it goes. The only way is to open it up and test, by tracing with an electronic device, if it is a viable sewer drain and NOT a storm drain.

A licensed plumber can do this for you and it will be money well spent.

They appear to be a "two way" cleanout, and if so the answer is NO you cannot use either of them for a toilet connection. Even if you could it would not be vented.

you cant just turn any basement pipe into a toilet

one is 1" from the wall, so spacing cant work

do what I did...Saniflo compact 48, pumps up to the soil pipe with 1" pvc, NO vent needed. This thing really works great ! We are VERY pleased so far. You could flush a woodchuck down it, but I wouldnt :)
