 Sharkbite pressure regulator
Author: Mikegp (MO)

Ok, I just got a new 1 inch Sharkbite pressure regulator from Home Depot online. The fitting with Sharkbite unions on both ends is 7 inches. The instructions say to cut a 4 1/8 opening to install. The unions are torqued on with Loctite. How do you slip this onto a existing pipe?

there may or may not be room for a slip coupling.
post a picture and someone will guide you in the right direction.

Thanks packy. I called Sharkbite about this. First guy didn't know what I was talking about so he transferred my call to their Master Plumber's voicemail but he never called back. If I can't use this I will just buy a solder kit and sweat a Watts or Wilkens PRV on with threaded unions.

You DON'T unless you can pull the two ends apart to get it into position.

Thanks HJ, I cannot move the pipes.Thats what I get for buying online. I thought the unions would be put on the pipe first and then the prv would thread on. I will take it back and get a Watts or Wilkins and sweat on some unions.

All you need to sweat on are the threaded adaptors. The regulator should have a threaded union and gasket to tie it all together.

Fit unions are not shark bites.many cannot fit unions.but if you can you are the man.pex for the shark biters.

your life will be a lot simpler if you can find a regulator with TWO unions, most only have one and you may have to "spread" the pipes to put it in anyway.

That regulator is NOT for repair...it is for new construction. You can't get around doing a little soldering here to get a threaded union installed.
