can you hook up a water pump without a pressure tank?

Of course, but if you have a pressure switch on it, the pump will cycle on and off CONTINUOUSLY while water is being used.

where the pump is always open ????????HJ.the only time the pump can run without, is if. The outlet has no control of the water being pumped.!!!!

The pump has a "maximum" output pressure, with or without flow. If the pump is running but the outlet is closed the pump will not stop, but the water WILL overheat and turn to steam.

I just ran across what is called an on demand pump that operates without a pressure tank. It did start each time water was used but this pump is made for this application. It looks like a shallow well jet pump.

HJ a /any pump at flow max is failed only by the means to stop it or the pumps quality.the pressure stopping as governed is key!!!
