I am bidding a new house and the homeowner wants an outdoor shower. I have never installed one before.
What do you guys normally do? I have two concerns: If I stick a regular Delta out there, the faceplate is not going to sit on the siding very nice. Also, it is on a finished wall above a finished area, and we freeze up here in good 'ole Michigan. How should I set it up to be drained down?

I would use a 2 handle shower faucet, expose all the piping and valve body, and leave the escutcheons off. Put shutoff valves inside the warm house and boiler drains outside at bottom of risers. Also put a removable plug on the tub outlet with instructions to remove it when the faucet gets drained every winter.

in massachusetts any shower, including outdoors, must be non-scald. if the shower is to be used just to wash off sand after coming home from the beach, then no drain is required. if the shower is enclosed and to be used for bathing (with soap and shampoo) it must have a drain to the sewer with a properly vented trap.
if this type is allowed, big box stores make an outdoor shower all set up to wash feet and use that port for a winter drain.
