the kohler drylock system is the worst engineering invention ever.
tank held to bowl by a STEEL plate and steel bolts.
every time you wash the area behind the toilet seat bolts, you splash water onto the steel plate.
it doesn't take a genius to understand the word rust..
sorry kohler fans but steel plate and steel bolts are something you would expect from a chinese import not a company that touts "quality"..

interesting..I sure wish Toto sold to the stores around me..I sent an email to the site sponser, no response yet.. called Toto too, the company they gave me is 30 miles away and they have the bowl but not the insulated tank...that would be over 2 weeks away

$2.00 worth of gas and a half hour ride. Take the car, it's too far to walk, once every 10 years or so.

2.00 worth of gas !! This isnt 1960 ya know, so that would be a half gallon of gas in 60 miles...not bad.
Yea they are about 210.00 for the toilet and tank. and a few weeks delivery. I looked at my local plumbing supply they carry Mansfield, I assume by the price you guys would say they are junk ??
Ill pobably just order the Toto, I have been tempted to keep the toilet I have because it never plugs and its in great shape, but someone here said its a reverse trap and cant be augered, which in 25 yrs we have never had to do anyway...
Im sure its a water hog but with just the two of us and we are not even here that much..if i did keep this one I would replace the flush valve and bolts and supply line anyway...

I assume you get my point. If you buy a piece of junk, you'll pay a lot more in the long run. Check out the MaP test scores for whichever toilet you are going to buy.The round Mansfields should be good at flushing a couple raisins.

yes rasins huh, oh well....so in your opinion the Toto is top of the line..The only issues are parts right...but what parts would be or could be needed that a plumbing supply or Lowes woulnt have ?

How often do you have to work on any toilet? Order the parts online when you need them.

quote; $2.00 worth of gas and a half hour ride.
30 milew away is 60 miles round trip. IF your car gets 120 mpg, AND you drive 120 mph, then it would only cost $2.00 and take a half hour. Most cars, and police forces, do not let these happen.

WHen my supply house carried Mansfield, I used a lot of them, without problems.

When I NEED parts, I need them NOW, NOT a week or more from now.

So HJ I assume you think I would be ok with the Mansfield from ourlocal supply ?? My tooilet now is a Mansfield but its 40 yrs old !

I would have no problem supplying and installing it, but use your own judgement, because if you go by my advice AND you should start having problems, which could happen regardless of the brand even Toto, you will blame me for your decision.

humm I wouldnt blame you IF you were giving me your honst opinion, im sure you have seen many more toilets than I have..I always thought Koehler was a great brand but after seeing responses here I guess not..
Again my toilet is a Mansfield but I thought you told me mine was some reverse trap or something that could not be augered but man this thing flushes everything..Probably uses 5 gallons per flush but its probably only flushed 4 tmes a day.
Our Saniflo says it uses 1.6 gallons and it flushe clean too..I guess I would be kinda nervous if I buy the Toto and something breaks on a Friday or wahtever im SOL ( no pun intended )for parts IF none of the flush valve or any parts are standard..
So HJ, that being said what is YOUR opinion of a good flushing brand and model that would have standard parts ?

The only toilets that CANNOT be augered are "washdown" bowls which have been obsolete for over 60 years, and those, such as some Kohlers, which have a restriction in the waterway which is smaller than the end of the closet auger.

I think thats what you said mine was...mine has a date stamed inside the tank of 1955 or 1956 and the trap or the flush goes towards the font of the bowl..not sure if there is a way to know if its a wash down bowl but again I think yu told me awhile back it was

A toilet that flushes to the front is ALWAYS an obsolete washdown toilet.

yup thats what mine does cause its got the water hole in the back, my wife is afraid IF I put a new different toilet in I will not be happy with the flushing after having this one...she may be right
