I just had a granite counter top from Factory Sales in Bensenville, IL installed in our bathroom. The installers had the faucets and drilled 3 holes for 4" faucets. They drilled them so close to the edge of the sink bowl that we couldn't attach the bolts underneath to secure it in place. After they were gone and we tried to install the faucets and could not, we complained and they told us they couldn't drill the holes any further back because faucets require no more than 2-1/2 inch clearance from the edge of the sink to the front edge of the faucet base otherwise the water will splash up onto the counter. That is ridiculous because all they had to go back was another 1/4" of an inch and everything would have been fine.
If there are any plumbers out there who can help, I have a few questions and am looking for a way to fix the problem.
1) Is there a "standard" 2-1/2" from the edge of the sink to front faucet base? (or just have far back can a faucet go from the edge of the bowl?
2) Since they are not standing by their installation, is there any way to cover up a very small gap in the front if we push the faucet as far back in the holes they drilled which would make it fit?
3) Could we silicone the sink to the granite and expect it to hold?
4) Has anyone ever heard of a "center knot" faucet that does not require bolts directly underneat the faucet? That is what Factory Sales told me to look for.
Thanks!!!

Standard setback/setforward for a faucet? No. There's thousands of faucets. Sounds like you'll just have to find one that fits what you have.

Onlyl about the 16 millionth time I have heard of granite fabricators/installers not playing well with the plumbing!

Silicon will not hold the faucets in place. Can you fabricate a shim, notched for and the same thickness of the sink ? Maybe use a thick heavy washer, notch it for the sink and use small 1/2" nuts like electricians use on romex connectors?

I like your idea of making a spacer. That might do the trick.
Those romex nuts are usually zinc pltd. steel. Not the best material choice for faucet mounts.

i deal with granite guys drilling the holes wrong all the time
get them to redrill it 1/4" back...as long as the faucet covers the over sized hole it will work just fine..
i just had an issue last week...they placed the sink too far back and didnt leave room for the faucet to fit correctly...instead of pushing the sink as far forward as possible, they centered the sink....the handle from the faucet now hits the back splash because of this....
they are only people and they make mistakes

If you use a Moen or Delta single handle centerset, they just have bolts in the side holes and you can move the faucet to the rear of the holes. A GOOD countertop company can redrill the holes a bit further backwards so the faucet will install properly and still cover the holes. But, by making this error, it appears you do NOT have a "good" company. They are either trying to dazzle you with their brilliance or baffle you with B.S., because there is NO "standard" for drilling the holes, but THEY should know how much room the sink takes and install the faucet holes accordingly.

What I find , that just torques my jaws, is that for some reason they always end up doing the granite when they do not have the sink and faucet in their hands. I think the GC....most of the time the homeowner....is to blame. But I have seen a big box install go just as bad, and supposedly there is a "job coordinator" looking over all that stuff! And in my feeble mind, the granite companies could do a better job. They need to say "hey, we can't drill because we need to have all the pieces".

Thanks for all the responses! They did have the sink ahead of time so they drilled the holes correctly for the bowls, and they had the faucets here when they came to drill the holes for the faucets, so definitely their fault. If they had only gone back 1/4 of an inch, everything would have been great. I appreciate all the ideas!!
