I had my water main replaced years back. It's 3/4 copper buried about 4 ft down in a bed of sand under the grass. This year when I had my roof redone, the truck that craned the shingles up for the guys put his stabilizer pad on the lawn on top of the main. When he was done, there was about a 4 to 6 inch depression there.
I might be paranoid here, but could the pressure have crushed the main?

I expect your hot and cold supply pipes are 1/2 inch diameter. What diameter is the plastic feed? If the reduction is greater than 1.5:1 it's quite likely that the velocity is great enough to cause noise in the pipe.

He is asking about the exterior water line, and specified that it is copper, NOT PLASTIC. THe interior water lines are completely irrelevent for this discussion.
