 replacing Harden shower valve trim
Author: kimblehouse (GA)

I would like to replace the shower valve trim without tearing up my tile and replacing the stuff behind it. Since Harden is no longer is there such a thing as compatible replacement trim or am I dreaming?

Harden, in the beginning was indeed a most unique design manufacturer. They would take a Symmons Showervalve and then create their own custom trim to go around it. The custom trim was often casted and much more expensive then the original Symmons trim. So you might have a chance if you know the basic mixing shower valve that was used. If it was a Symmons value, you might go back to Symmons trim. I truly hope that is the case.

Hardin trim is all that will fit your faucet. Is there any chance of making an access hole on the back side of the wall to replace the faucet?

wheelchair, now that you mention it, some expensive waterworks shower valves used symmons valve bodies.

Also, before Harden went south, it was acquired with Fisher Mfg in California. Fisher Mfg was established in making commercial faucets and sprays for restaurants and food service operations.

Back in 2003, I was high bidder of an un-opened box of Harden (shower-only)box, for the price of a pack of cigarettes. After opening the box, I was impressed with its contents as it contained (1) Symmons Temptrol Shower Only Valve. The Harden model number on the box was D770B-22-P. What made this unique was Harden then took everything else that would/might be exposed and made it their own. The face escutcheon was cast, with Harden's logo. The Symmons Dome nut was heavier duty and finished with highly polished brass, instead of stamped material. Included, were two Brasscraft matching polished brass stops. One could easily tell that this product was NOT sold in a big box store. It was definitely higher end and custom made, using the Symmons Temptrol as a base. I also received a reply to my inquire from Harden that this product, listed for more then 6 big ones.
Today, I still have it, with hopes of using it in a private shower stall. Its a shame that Harden went South.

I like when the big boys play.designed crystal handles has killed more than a few knock off providers.backing to Symmons to replace is not going to be pretty.
