I just replaced the o-rings on the back of the 1400 cartridge, and now I can't get the cartridge back in. When the o-rings hit the brass, they won't slide in. I couldn't find the Delta replacement parts at the local HD, so I just bought a pack of o-rings. They match up perfectly - same size as far as I can see. Are the "official" Delta o-rings smaller outside diameter? Like I said, these look to be exact same size. Is there a trick to getting them to slip in?

The only "trick" I use is to change the entire cartridge, not try to replace its parts. HD, nor anyone else, does not have the "parts" because I have never seen those "O" rings sold separately.

I always open up the cartridge and replace the Delta cup washers and springs, the same ones used in lavatory and kitchen faucets.

Here is a chart covering most..NOT ALL.... available o-ring sizes. Unless you get the specific Delta part, the odds that you got the CORRECT o-ring are slim. The thickness is critical to fit and proper seal\

A size chart is only helpful if you have a way to "accurately" measure the old "O" ring. And the critical dimension is what it measured when "new".

Congrats, You've discover a secret. An O ring has 3 unique measurements. 1. The outside diameter. 2. The inside diameter and 3. The wall thickness. Delta, uses special O rings. Had you just called Delta.. I'm sure they would have sent you the o-rings at no cost. They may even send you a new cartridge too.... if you ask. The big box stores don't carry the original parts...as you have discovered. Now spread the word.

The wall thickness is the o.d. minus the i.d., so you only any two of the dimensions to calculate the third one.

hj...you are using old math, which you , and even a relative youngster like myself, learned!
TODAY...kids learn that if the inside diameter is not big enough, you should seek a government grant to make it larger.

Today kids learn that if the inside diameter is larger than the outside diameter then it was made by a DIYer.
