 Pressure Switch Adjustment
Author: JohnF (ME)

I have a Square D 30/50 pressure switch on my water system air tank. How high can the pressure be adjusted using this switch? The switch has 2 adjustment posts the one on the left is labeled, turn CW to adjust high stop only and the right says turn CW to adjust both high stop and low stop. I'm assuming CW stands for clockwise. I adjusted the post that controls both. It raised the high shut off to 58 psi but the low stayed at 30. Is there anything I need to do different to get the pump to cut on around 35 to 40 psi or do I need to just change out the switch for a 40/60? Thanks in advance for any information you can give me.

Change it to the 40/60. They're cheap.

Get a new switch and also adjust the air pressure in your tank to 38 psi (when the tank is empty) While you've got it drained down, you mind as well replace the pressure gauge too.

Yep. While you're at it, check the pipe nipple for the switch. If it's galvanized, make sure the inside is not rusty. Rpl with a brass one if needed. The pressure tank should hold the new precharge of 38 PSI for at least 1 hour, if not rpl it too.

If should hold it "forever" or else it is defective. You adjust the "high level" screw , (the large one), the smaller right hand one adjusts the differential, the amount the pressure has to drop before the pump starts.
