I am soldering copper water pipe; but although shut off; the water will not stop dripping from the cold water pipe. I tried opening and/or closing other fausets to no avail.

Cold side only? Try opening up an outside hose bib.

Your soldering work is secondary to the repair of a leaky shut off valve. Once the shut off valve is working properly you can proceed with the copper pipe.

depends on how fast the drip is. you can use a shop vac to get enough water out of the pipe to solder, if the drip is slow enough. otherwise, use a sharkbite.

it will only be a use if he is going to install a valve, then remove the JetSwet to complete the job.

If a little water is dripping fix the drip but there is another trick but not sure I should tell I'll let someone else let the cat out of the bag. Hint it is a common item found in the kitchen.

I have been doing plumbing for over 60 years and so far have NEVER had to resort to putting bread in the line to stop water flow.

I never have used bread in the 45 years that I have been plumbing.I have heard that if you put a little butter on it ,it will slide into the pipe easier.LOL.I have changed areators and shutoff valves because so called plumbers used bread in the water lines .

And I assume it would also do a number on the balancing spool in a tub/shower valve.
