I had ceiling leak - stain, appeared to from 2nd floor toilet. Had toilet replaced with new ring. A day later -- the leak started again. How do you tell if the toilet was not installed correctly or is an inside wall pipe with leak?

Is the toilet base calked where it meets the floor? If not watch for water around this area as you flush the toilet, Can slide a tissue under this area and see if there is water. Next carefully check where tank is fastened to the bowl as there is a gasket, then where the water supply attaches to the flush fill valve. In other words the toilet leaks should be redially visiable at the toilet upstairs if not then in the water supply or drain system

flush the toilet 20x and see if the problem gets worse
or skip flushing the toilet for a day or 2 and see if the problem goes away
