Moen gives you A lot of play with depth....you have like 1" or more either way....so your way off...Kohler is much more fussy

i dont know of any extension kit...call Moen

Moen makes extension kits for old-style chateau, posi-temp, and Moentrol.

Is there any way to get at it from the other side of the wall? It's a lot easier to fix sheetrock.

It is even easier, and cheaper, to buy the 1" extension for the valve he has.

i'd rip the wall out before i'd pay scalpers rates for an extension kit.

it didnt come with instructions that tell you where the valve needs to be placed during rough-in?

You did not read the instructions before installation did you? Now you know why they send them!

Instructions? The paper with all the pictograms that reads like a comic book without words? Most important is that funky black plastic rough-in spacer. Fit it flush to the finished wall before setting the valve. ya can't miss.

The black plastic ring which is installel on the valve and is to be removed and thrown away at a latter date says on the front this face to be flush with finished wall, meaning just that. Make sure you did not misplace the small screw in extension which is about 1 inch long and is designed to thread into the plastic valve body and inturn accept the shower handle. If you still missed this measurement sounds like you put the valve body damn near at the back of a wall. Yes they do make an extension for about 20.00 but call Moen and they may send you one for free. Actually a stainless steel bolt from the hardware store can be adapted to work because basically all you are doing is running a threaded bolt into the valve long enough to accept the handle which is attached with an allen set screw.

$500.00 to repair a wall, instead of $30.00 for an extension kit? EVERYONE kicks you when you are down. Why do you think they charge so much at children's hospitals? Because they know you have to pay it.

The MAIN part of the extension is the longer stop tube and stem extension. You can get the bolt anywhere. In fact, with some handles you have to furnish your own 3" long bolt, and grind the edges of the head so it will slide into the recess.

live and learn for the next time:

finished wall = face of finished tile, not the studs or sheetrock

sheetrock+backerboard+tile=1&1/4" too far back ........ oops

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS

this WILL bother you forever .... open 'er up and fix it properly (hopefully from non-tiled side) .... not a major deal
