From advice given to previous posters it sounds like the Toto Drake 1.6 gallon model is a very good flushing toilet. We need a toilet like that since my 14 year old son frequently has large stools such that "surgery" needs to be performed before flushing. Is the Toto still among the best in this regard?
Why don't toilet manufacturers just make trapways of sufficient size to make stool clogs unlikely? Is that too expensive? Or maybe it is a problem because then other items could then be flushed past the toilet and clog plumbing further down the line?
Thanks.

Toto drake 1.6 is all ive installed in the last 6 years or so. A couple 1.28 drakes on request or reluctantly have installed customer bought toilets. The funny thing is, I looked at the discharge from the drake recently and it didnt appear to be any larger in diamater than other toilets. Also I expected to see a glazed trapway but it wasn't. I do know I installed three of them in my house 8 months ago and I always keep one on my truck and have 6 more at home right now in my stock. Havent had to unclog one yet for me or my customers and until the other day when I got a call from my brother who had one installed 6 years ago, haven't got a service call on the tank parts. His flapper started leaking. I'm know there are better toilets, but for the price and performance they work great for me. I had a chinese man who always kept chopsticks in the trashcan for chopping up purposes before a flush. When I came back after installing his drake, they were gone. Maybe toto will use that as a testament to their toilet.

i think the Dual Cyclone flushing system by Toto is better than the Drakes G-max
the Drake is great, but Toto has 1 step better
i have a Toto Soiree and its never plugged, while my Drake does 1-2x a year when ive eaten too much Mexican food
Toto makes the Dual Cyclone in the Drake II i believe??

In most cases it not the size of the trapway, it is the "labyrinth" design of the trapway. Good flushing toilets, such as the Vitra, have a simple inverted "U" path rather than the twists and turns of the other brands.

A 6" trapway would handle most waste...but there is not enough water to carry the waste through that gaping maw. That is the essence of the problem....not enough water, so manufacturers are constantly tweaking flush designs to try and make the impossible happen!

I don't see a growing trend for larger traps in Toilets in the future because of an issue that affects a minority. Toilet habits and diciplines might be a better solution or an auto-flush unit to assure that solids are passed in a timely fashion.
Presently the Drake seems to be the best answer of solid waste material.
Best Wishes

What about a Caroma? It claims to have a 4" trapway. [www.caromausa.com]

Well Rick based on previous posts many like the Toto. Personnally I think they are way over priced and have their flushing problems. I put in an American Standard Cadet a few years ago and have had zero problems with it flushing. It works all the time, every time and the price reflects an excellent value. In that period of time not once did it fail to flush for #2 use.
Check it out for yourself.

I have a toto drake and it works extremely well. Also installed Gerber viper and it flushes well also. Drake has an edge but the Viper has a huge bowl area I really like. On the Drake, the supplier paired a soft close seat not made by toto and the fit isn't perfect. But the Toto seat is not cheap.

I dont know what you guys pay but drakes are very cheap right now, at my supply at least. I paid 170 last time i stocked up and they are down to 135 for the 1.6 and the 1.28 eco also. The seats arent cheap but i get a softclose for about 34 which is pretty good. Now, for the money, I believe the toto drake is even a stronger argument for the way to go.

Though I will install any toilet provided to me by my customer, I will only supply or recommend the Toto line of toilets.
I've installed them in high volume places like churches, restaurants, and even an art school. Never had any problems with them.

If the customer wants a Toto, I will install it, because then there is no problem if it is unsatisfactory. But, if the allow me to decide on the make and model, I will install something else. I have only installed a half dozen or so Totos.
