 can't turn off water sprayer

Every time I turn on my kitchen faucet, the water sprayer turns on and sprays. I now have it lying in the sink so it won't spray whoever turns on the water. How do I stop it from spraying?

If you are even slightly mechanically inclined you can remove the spout and clean and lubricate the spray diverter with silicone grease. (WARNING- DON'T use the stuff called plumbers grease as it is petroleum based.)

What kind is it? If it is one that you push a button to turn it on, and it is stuck on, then it WILL spray everytime the faucet is turned on. You need to replace the spray head (most likely), OR replace the diverter, OR remove the diverter. WE cannot tell you WHICH to do without knowing the make and model of the faucet.

You are missing the point that the sprayer should NOT be spraying if they have not depressed the button on the spray head, unless it is something like the old Chicago faucets which had the button on the bottom of the spout.

Kayrenay- There are several thousands of kitchen faucets on the market place these days. Many operate differently then others. Hence there is no easy resolve by guessing what you have. Do you know the make and model of your kitchen faucet? That will help all of us.

I'd say theres a 99% chance that the spray head its self is where the problem lies.

the spray head is dysfunctional/pull the hose up kink the hose and use tape to keep it kinked until you have a new head .

In other words, clamp the hose with forceps or a hemostat.

A little less than that.but the sprayer may clean the dishes before you reach for it as posted.
