 Dual flush toilet leak
Author: water9094 (IL)

We have an off-brand dual-flush toilet (top mount buttons). I'm trying to determine what is causing the leak and how to find replacement parts.

After the toilet is flushed the tank fills but the water leaks out into the bowl at a moderate rate. If I fill the tank and then turn off the water line, the tank will drain out but retain about 2 inches of water. In other words, the bottom seals are holding. I assume the flapper is higher up in the plastic housing but since it's encased I can't see how well its creating a seal. Does this sound like a flapper problem?

I can't find a brand-name on the toilet itself but the current fill tube says "Milim". I don't see Milim replacement parts anywhere. It's a one piece molded toilet with a small tank- only 9" deep by 14" wide.

Your flapper is leaking. Drain the water, wipe down the seat it goes into and the flapper as well. After that look and feel for rough spots. If none are found, refill and wait to see if your cleaning solved the problem. If not remove the flapper and take it to a plumbing supply house to get a replacement.

Yes, it appears your flapper is leaking. I agree with the above poster, and there is a good chance you will need to replace it if the first suggestion does not work.

Am I missing something with that last person's response? Anyway, thanks for the first two responses. I'll try to clean the flapper and see what happens. I was dreading trying to find all new parts but that's a good suggestion to let the plumbing supply guys figure it out for me smiling smiley

I've put in a few owner supplied dual flushers through the years and each time have murmered to myself, "I hope they don't call me when this thing runs".
