I have to go to a job and one of the things that need done is to service leaking bathtubs. I went there a couple of years ago and serviced the price pfister bathroom faucets with ceramic stems, possibly the 910-900 stem which i do stock on my truck. These bath faucets were put in about 10 years ago when the tub fixtures were changed out. Is it possible that these stems are used in the tub? All i know is that they are pp 1/4 levers. These lav stems seem like they would be too short, but I dont know if they are also used in tubs. If not, then how many different ceramic stems does pp have that it could possibly be? I would like to show up with the possible parts even if it means buying multiple stems.

Tubs use an entirely different ceramic stem, and I have never tried to replace a sink's compression stem with a ceramic one, and as far as I know they are not interchangeable.

I think you misunderstood me. I serviced the pp ceramic faucet stems with new pp ceramic stems. I didnt change anything from comp to ceramic. these people had the shower valves done at the same time the lav faucets were put in. I'm pretty sure these 900-910 stems i carry for kitchen and lav sinks wont work in a tub 3 handle set-up. I think i may have found the stem searching online and will have to go out to partsmaster soon. PP doesnt seem to have too many stems that it can even be.

The ceramic stems for a tub are MUCH larger and longer than the ones for a sink, and cost more also. I have about a dozen of them in my truck, because I also retrofit them into the older PP tub/shower faucets.

I have a couple of those retrofit stems on my truck, i've yet to install them yet. Are you supposed to remove the valve seat when you install those pp ceramic stems?

Yes, except if you have the "Crown" seris valve with the round flat handles. With those you remove the seats first, but if it does not shut off, then you put the seats back in and try again. Sometimes even then they will not work with the new stems and you have to keep them compression.

The 910-900 can replace the hydro-seals, but I am not sure about older compression stems

I had a hunch when I thought about it and called the customer back and stressed to him that i need to know if the valves stop at 1/4 turn like he told me, or if they keep going. Turns out they are the compression stems for levers and I ended up just servicing them. Good customer but and older asian man with heavy accent and sometimes hard to get correct info. Ended up installing 3 totos along with all the other stuff also.
