They say when it rains, it pours. In your case they flood. Remember to lift from the knees and where a back support belt. :)

I believe that you are not the only one as of this morning the weather experts said that some areas in Wisconsin, Chicago, and West of Chicago going back to Iowa received anywhere from 7-15 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. Chicago too got it bad and a dam was breached in Lowa this morning. As suggested, a binder belt is a smart piece of equipment to have.... and wear.

TP and sewage all over their basements...it was slippery going into a few of them

i worked today (Sat) all day until i ran out of sump pumps...monday if the water heaters..

in some area's every house flooded...everyone needs a new furnace and water heater...also washers/dryers

insurance seems to be paying a lot of them $5k to clean and replace.....i assume it will cost most of them $12-15k....good way to help the economy for contractors...we had a tornado in the next city over...100+ houses to work on...one of my fire/water restro guys got 25 houses

i was considering hiring a helper for a day...give him $200 to help carry them all out...im considering it

If yours are anything like my last one I'd say about a week :) 18 year old leaking w/h stuffed into a moblie home closet, particle board floor rotted out, no cut of valve on poly-b supply pipes, and a quart of rocks, mud, sand and debris in the bottom of the tank due to bad well maintenance making it near impossible to drain. I've never worn a back brace, but I cannot do without knee pads anymore. Something about turning 50. Good Luck.

i had an oil fired water heater last week which took 1.5 hours to get out of the basement...it was soooo heavy i had to cut it into pieces...then i still had to get the homeowner lady to help me over the last step....i was sore the whole weekend...i lost $ on that job...but she referred me to her dad and ill make a killing on Monday installing an AO Smith Vertex

13 hrs is pretty fast since you will be spending 4 or more looking out the windshield . that gives you less than an hour from start to finish on each since you will need at least 10-15 mins to make out the bill and get paid for each job

including draining and getting paid i usually average 1.5 - 2 hrs per from arrival to departure

i bet it will be 15-18 hrs to get all 7 done

i typically can do them in 45 min to 1 1/2 hours..i will have my van all setup to only do waterheaters...everything i need at the back door...its a 15' cube van, so i think i can easily do 3 before i have to go home and unload....

im starting at 7am, so im hoping by 8pm to be done

With any luck Murphy won't be watching. The helper sounds like A good idea.Going to be one of the day's that separate the men from the boy's!

Good Luck. Insulate your hot piping, although costly, it will pay you back every day.

ive rarely had suprises w/ waterheaters....only 1 is a 50 gal and the rest are all 40's...so hopefully that will help my back a bit...all are on city water, so probably no buildup...with my van cleaned out and organized i think i can do all of them in 1 trip...the cardboard will probably be the biggest problem.....and Ferguson delivering them on schedule.

15 hours

3 went very poorly...very old piping...

plus i spent 1 1/2 hours unloading and getting my van back in order, so i was done at 11:30pm

$7,000 in sales in 1 day...a new record...

my back is fine...a few scrapes and bruises

things are finally calming down around here...the furnace guys are still going bonkers though..

15 hrs. ?

now where have i heard that number? hmmmmmm?

you may be fast for your area but you are average for everywhere else

you need to learn to consider that few jobs go perfect and 45 min replacement is about as perfect as you can get for this not to mention traffic and someone else was delivering the new heaters plus the time to get paid

no wonders you rarely lost a bid. you bid it for less than the time it would normally take thinking you were bidding just right or even above what it should thus undercutting those that bid the job more precise.

have employees doing the work for you bidding the way you do and you would be out of business within a year if not sooner

dlh, you always seem to have a nice warm pile of negativity waiting for everyone.

Did you go fetch the left handed hacksaw one too many times as an apprentice.

i dont try to be. that is just how it comes out

dont think i ever fell for any of those tricks. not to say they didnt try. i was older as this is my second career and had been around tools for a long time and that usually is pulled on younger ones that dont know any better plus the fact that back then we were very busy and had only a few people with no time foolishness

one was a AO smith vertex...$2500 installed....i didnt lose any money on that 15 hours..i made about $150-175 per hour....i also installed a disposal and rebuilt 2 faucets....for that AO smith vertex i had to drill through brick and run the vent in a crawl space...i spent 5 hours on that job(that one included the faucets and disposal)...

all the jobs were about 15 min apart(much closer than i thought)...i spent 3 hours on the one i really had trouble with...i did charge the owner extra since it was the existing piping and not me...

yes it over all went worse than typical....i recently lowered my water heater prices...im planning on raising them back to where they were...the problems were mainly due to older houses than normal...my typical replacement is a 6-25 year old house...all the houses i did were 60+ years old..one was 120 years old.....its where the flood damage was..in the older neighborhoods..

all these people were referrals...i had the job...being low or high price wasnt an issue with any of them

also close to 1 hour was spent on the phone taking calls....i think 15 hours is respectable...but not good...

im still a Super Plumber...i wasnt on that day though...i just roughed in a new house (2.5 bath/2 story/ 2 bath up w/ wp and double sinks) in 23 hours this week....not many people can do that...plumbing was perfect!

of course a service person couldnt come close because they dont do it all the time but anyone that does construction all the time can do it easily. that is three 8 hour days. that is one day under ground one day on the first floor and one on the second. not that hard using pex and pvc. now if it was a copper install instead of pex then i would say it was fast

If was done no problems passed inspection it was a great job that went well. I do this work everyday and would be happy with it also. I would say it was fast and beat most by 8 hrs.
