Hi everyone,
I have an old high tank toilet that won't flush anymore. The old stopper mechanism--a plastic cylinder that went up and down on a chain that wrapped around a copper tube with cutouts for water flow--ceased working after the copper rusted away. I suppose welding on a new piece would do the trick but this is way beyond my ability. A friend put in a rubber stopper, but, even with a weight, it won't stay down enough to keep the water from flowing. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
-Eric

Sounds like you need to update the flush valve with a newer version. While your at it, replace the tank to bowl bolts and gasket if you can.

Fluid master .Makes a product called a flush fixer.it glues a seat to the old assembly.I would go with that until a better option could be purchased or fabricated.

Good Luck. Insulate your hot piping, although costly, it will pay you back every day.

High Tank, to me, implies one that hangs on the want 4ft above the toilet base and is fed by a discharge tube. If this is correct, which brand. American Standard?

From the description, this is NOT a bowl mounted tank. I sounds like a wall mounted tank about 6' above the floor.

I have seen some weird flush valves in the "new" high tanks, but his description does not give a lot of detail about his.

Almost sounds like a Mansfield flushvalve to me.
