At least half of the 3" ABS furnace vents I come across leak condensation thru joints. There is hardly any yellow glue visible, they must be economizing on use of glue.
I also notice that frequently they are inadequately supported and this leads to extra stress at the joints.
I don't get it. Why can they not get them leak-free?

Used to work for a mechanical contractor and the HVAC guys would tear out the plumbing so they could have an easier run; and they worked for the same contractor!! These problems could be caused by them huffing too much freon and glue! LOL

The only ABS glue I have seen is black, and the only yellow glue is for CPVC, so what kind of glue and/or pipe are you referring to.

All the ABs cements I have used are yellow. Check out Ipex 71 cement. It is about 40% of the way down.

The glue I use is Sluyter 55Y

Even their 66Y is yellow.
Must be a Canadian thing.
The pipe I am referring to is 3in ABS which the furnace guys use to vent condensing furnaces. It looks identical to ABS drain pipe, next time I will check the markings on it.

Very unusual cements. They even have one which requires a primer, which NONE of the ABS cements we use do.

quote; any ABS glue sold in Canada is yellow
That could lead to all kinds of punch lines, but will leave it at that.

I'm wondering why they are using ABS pipe in the first place, ABS is a CELL CORE pipe and every furnace or plastic vented water heater that I have installed the installation instructions specifically states NO CELL CORE VENTING. Must just be Canada.

Might be in Quebec, where they do not believe ANYTHING printed in English. They don't even like English words, such as Microsoft and Macintosh, and rephrase them into French whenever they can.
