Ideally you set into the system, rinse it and flush it./Harmful?lessor evil! The iron does not hurt.what holds on to it can!

Good Luck. Insulate your hot piping, although costly, it will pay you back every day.

I really don't have an iron problem. It is normally 5ppm. In the spring it seems to be a little higher. So I can pour some in the salt and set it to rinse and it will be Ok?

Does your salt tank run to the bottom?/Not holding more than a few gallons?I would rather see you chlorinate the salt tank than iron ike/out it.Using a backwash with no water running between cycles. As I said the iron really does not bother me,sanitation of the holding tank and the system do.Check the water quality after the softener .but at extreme temp changes you may find flaking off of pre or post tubing as a short lived problem.Sorry if this seems unclear to you.

Iron out is recommended for that use. It is one capful for each bug of salt. No harm will come from it's use.

I have checked it and it wasn't bad. The salt does go to the bottom of the softener. I should chlorinate it?

Chlorination will do nothing for iron, it is good to kill the bacteria that causes the sulfer smell. I doubt your salt tank drains completly with every regeneration. You could try to put the draw tube in a solution of riron ike and brine, but I think your softener isn't set up correctly if you are getting iron after it. (it is supposed to remove the iron...) If you get it serviced ask the company if they can adjust the regeneration. How old is the media? Also what type of salt do you use?

Again, to answer your question... yes Iron Out is safe to use in your salt/brine tank. While it sits in the tank waiting to clean the resin beads in the softener, it also cleans and removes lingering iron stains and build up inside the tank and float assembly.
It is one of theose safe excellent products.

Best Wishes

Good suggestions by Wheelchair and Shoemaker. Go very easy with the chlorination suggestion. Not frequently and no more that 1/2 cup of unscented bleach. Maybe once every 3 months. Do not add the iron out and the bleach together.

I like chlorination with salt fill here.if water is held in the salt tank.Temperature for him may be lessor and it makes my conclusion.nothing like a 95 degree garage for your salt reservoir.
