 Outdoor Shower Connection

I'm going to make a tie in with sharkbite fittings to 1/2" copper stubouts for an outdoor shower. The stubouts extend outside of the rock wall so the sharkbite fittings will not be enclosed. After I clean the stubouts with emory cloth and debur them, do I need to apply some silicon lube for the O-rings in the sharkbite fittings; and will the fittings be able to move so I can get the proper angle for my tie in. Also do I need to remove the line up piece in the fitting for a better fit? Thanks in advance and for past answers.
Gary

I avoid sharkbite fittings like the plague, but if you must use them, do not put anything on the o rings. The are a push and play type of fitting. As far as removing anything, is there a sleve for plastic pipe? There should be some sort of directions...

i agree and disagree with mike.
i also do not use sharkbite fittings.
i do disagree that a tiny bit of real silicone grease will hurt anything. it might keep the "O" ring from distorting as the fitting slides onto the rough surface of older pipe...
faucet manufacturers (some of them) send a little bit of silicon grease along with the faucet.

I see you as good to go right up till you said angle for new pipes.at 90 degrees you are good.failure to hold that ,not so!!!

Good Luck. Insulate your hot piping, although costly, it will pay you back every day.

I guess I don't have enough experience with these little gems!! I mostly take them out of homes after homeowners put them in!!

i don't either, mike. but it is my feeling that "O" ring grease (silicone grease) never hurts to put some on..

Sharkbites OUTSIDE?..hmm I would be concerned about freezing. The plastic insert can be pulled out with needle nose pliers, and as I understand are only used to add some inside reinforcement for non-metallic pipes. Pipes can flex a tiny bit with sharkbites, a degree or two; the more flex, the greater risk of a leak or popoff. They are wonderful for emergency repairs until a more reliable connection can be made. The are rather expensive, and not my 1st choice for making connections. Good luck!

no reason to clean the outside of the pipe with emery cloth but other than that make sure you insulate the lines really good to protect from the wind and you will not have much problem with freezing if any at all as long as you are not in the panhandle

NO lube. It is not a "line up piece" it is a stabilizer for plastic tubing and you can remove it for copper if you want to. The fitting will rotate.
