I'll be installing a warranty replacement unit GE model #GG50T06PVJ (from the big box retailer) and am wanting to add an outlet anode. I'm expecting the single anode is magnesium. Will the extra warranty pack Rheem has work on this unit? If so, how do I find someone who stocks the unit. If not, what parts will I need to put together my own kit?
I'm the homeowner. It'll be the third unit in 14 yrs. We have extremely hard water that is softened. I need to check the ppm for the softener, but I don't believe it's heavily softened.
Additionally, this go around, we plan on better/regular maintenance on the unit. Haven't pulled the anode for the unit we're about to pull, but I'm expecting it to be spent. Didn't regularly flush either. While I'm in there, am going to add flex copper and replace the shutoff with a ball valve. Any other suggestions??
Thanks in advance!

Maybe replace the drain with a high quality ball valve so that regular flushing is easier.

Yes, with that short of heater lives, install ground clamps on both the hot and cold lines and run a copper wire between them. You may have "stray" electrical currents entering the hot water line which will "eat away" at the tank as they travel to the cold pipe. It may be a case of it not having any benefit, but also will not cause any problems. I have done it on heaters which fail prematurely and it seems to stop the rapid failures.
