 tub question
Author: PlumerDan (CA)

well the wife has narrowed "my" choices down for "my " tub . "I" either want the kohler archer whirlpool or the am std. cambridge. any thoughts on the acrilic vs the americast? the kohler weighes 135 and the other's only 190 .looking more on which will last the longest.

I would go with real cast iron before americast.

i'm not a big fan of anything made by american standard. but, the americast is decent quality.
read the directions for setting it. no mortar under it.

I have alot of experience with Americast....I now order 2 every time i need 1...they come damaged ALOT..

I hate American Standard...I think they make Junk

Yet I do install them because they make it possible for me to install a cast iron tub on the 2nd floor by myself....they also fit in a 30" space because they have no nailing flange...

would i choose one for my house? no...have i had complaints from the dozen or so ive installed? no...

My preferences are from best to worst; Cast iron, Americast, acrylic, fiberglass, and a distant last enameld steel. I have not had a bad Americast so if someone is getting damaged ones he is either buying from Home Depot or a careless supply house.

i buy them from supply houses....Im told im not the only complainer....im also fussy though...they never have a perfect edge...the edges are all hacked up...it looks like its just part of how they make the tub...when the hacks go past 1/2" is where i say no...

could be just a bad supply house, but they dont have any other problems with other tubs.

and by judging on the great quality/design of other A.S. products id definately say its A.S.'s fault.

i change my mind about installing one...i guess id throw it in a basement bath on my own home...i wouldnt put it upstairs.

IF I had that many problems, I would be contacting the American Standard local representative and find out what the problem was and why I had to take the time and trouble to keep returning bathtubs, since my time is not free.

i got a $50 refund on one of the tubs...he just gave me $50 off the next one....I told the rep. he sells junk at one of the local supply house picnics.....im painfully honest.

i dont want to install normal cast iron tubs because of the weight....they always seem to be in the 2nd floor too....so i sell the Americast instead....i also run into situations where the 30" thing works out and where 32" wouldnt...
