blue green residue in white tub
Author: dpepzi02 (ME)

The house we live in only 9 years old, but the water coming from the bathroom shower faucet is turning our white tub blue ( and also my blonde hair green! ). We have a dug well that was improperly made, they drilled holes around the sides of it so we get lots of surface water when it rains. What can we do? And does anyone know What actually causes it?

Acid Rain is what is causing you well to be acidic, which eats your copper and leaves your tub and hair green. You need to have an acid neutralizer installed

Before you add ANY water conditioning equipment, get a water test. It is cheap and could save you a lot of dollars spent on something you didn't need.

Take the water sample as close as you can to the well. If you take a sample from inside the home your analysis will be skewed by corrosion products like copper. The blue/green color is typically copper being corroded from your plumbing in the home. Once you have the analysis have a Water Treatment Specialist or several give you their recommendation.

Several things can cause blue water stains. Here's a link that might be helpful: [www.cleanwaterstore.com]. On well systems low Ph (acid) is the usual culprit, but you really should have a professional test your water. (Not the monkeys who drilled holes to let surface water back into your well... Yikes!)
I had a client with a similar issue. He wanted me to fix pipe leaks in a 3 story house piped in all copper on a well with no treatment system. Big problem was, as soon as I put the tube cutter on to cut out the bad section, the pipe wall collapsed and started leaking. Not a good sign. I hope you can nip it in bud before it comes to that!
Best Wishes.
