I live in an old house and my main drain keeps getting clogged. The plumber tells me that I dont use enough water. I do live alone, but this seems wrong. He told me to flush twice and to run the washer every other day???? My question is maybe this main drain doesnt have enough pitch towards the sewer, and that is really the problem ,and whos job is it to fix it??

Who owns the house? You need to have it camerad to find what the exact problem is.

The main drain from your house to the street is YOUR responsibility. The correct method to determine its condition is to send a sewer camera into it live and record the results, again live. It will cost you, but in the end there will be very little guess work.
