 Well water filters
Author: samler17 (MD)

I have well water and the filter that is on the system is a hard plastic sediment filter (I'm assuming). My question is: Is ther a better filter for my water system?

to treat the water properly, you need to take a water sample and send it to a testing lab for analysis. they will tell you what you need to remove or add to obtain top quality water.
well water varies so much from community to community that there is no such thing as a one size fits all filter.

I'm assuming the filter that is on your well is for sediment. Well installers usually put them on as a matter of good practice to remove sediment. Once a well is stabilized, I would take a sample and have it tested and choose water conditioning based on the results.

Ive never seen a well which didnt need a water softener

i use the Big Blue sediment filters if sediment is a problem

Wells vary and so does the water they produce. Filters vary too and what they do. Some filters are designed to trap and hold elephants while others are designed to trap garlic and hold its odors.

A clean water sample of your raw water should be tested by a certified water specialist to determine what is in it. The results may suggest that you do nothing. The results may suggest that the hardness requires a conditioner/softener. The results may suggest other components to improve the quality and taste. As you can see, results vary enough that its best to wait and see the results.

Do it right the first time.....
Best Wishes

depends on the area...your chances here in WI to have soft water out of a well are Zero...were all at 22-30 hardness

Number one... Have the water tested. Then decide.
