My toilet is exactly oposite to my refrigerator (other side of wall). Can I split the water line to the toilet with a tee to feed a line through the wall and eventually to the fridge?
thanks

yes you can tap off the toilets 1/2" water line for a fridge ice maker

if you have the right kind of valve and supply riser you can install a BrassCraft 3/8"x1/4" "add-a-tee" on it and then a 1/4" stainless steel braided icemaker supply tube from the tee to the icemaker connection, or 1/4" copper instead of the supply tube, depending on how small you want the hole through the wall to be.

Code allows copper to penetrate wall, not a supply hose. The stop needs to be on ref. side of wall. Tee in wall so both have separate shut offs

thanks...just out of curiousity.....there are no shut offs under any of the sink fixtures - this is a new home. Why is it that a shut off is required at both the toilet and the eventual branch to the fridge?
thanks again ramplum

The reason a valve is requires is so you don't have to disturb the entire supply system to work a an individual part.

because if the faucet starts to leak it will most often go down the drain but if the fridge leaks there needs to be a way to stop the water immediately to curb the damage and the same goes for toilet tanks since the bowl is where the drain is and the tank can overflow by itself
i bet you have a manifold with valves for a bathroom if not each fixture individually if you have pex piping

many ice maker connections have a shut off and filter in the basement.

Do you have a PEX system with the shutoffs at a manifold in the garage or somewhere?

What's a basement? We have dirt under our floors.

It is a PEX manifold system with shut-offs.
the main water shut-off is also located right beside the manifold.

In that case, we cannot tell where the best place to make the connection is, or HOW to make it.
