Are angle stops required on bathroom and kitchen sinks? We had a contractor that told us they are not required.

i know they arent required on lav sinks...id think kitchen would also be the same ...thats in WI though..
only the lowest of plumbers would not include them....a very bad sign. it was common around here in the early 80's during the last bad recession...low prices-junk
i use 1/4 turn ones which cost me extra and use it as a sales pitch to customers.

it depends on which code you follow. i think the upc requires each individual fixture to have its own cut off valve.
you would have to go to houses made in the 50's-60's to find them without stops for the sinks in my area

Unless he is going to use dozens of them, the added cost is not a hardship. ANY plumber who does not install them, however, has underestimated the job and is trying to cut every corner he can.

They might be using a manifold pex system which has all the shut offs in one location.

What difference does that make? You just buy straight stops for the same price. And plumbers do not install plumbing in mobile homes.

THe way the question is asked that is not indicated. The contractor should have said, "They are at the manifold", not "They are not required" if that were the case. Unless we have a lack of communication.

Install the stops and be done with it. You won't be sorry years down the road when you need them. Just remember it was Plbg.com that reminded you.

MD code requires stops at every fixture or at every bathroom group. Manabloc system installations that do not include stops at the fixtures are a headache, esp. on two story houses.

And especially when they start to leak at the handles after a few on/off cycles. It is a real nuisance if there are no unused valves which you can transfer the line to and just shut the leaking one off, assuming it only leaks when the valve is on, which has been my experience with them.

yes, put in the 1/4 turn angle stops. it is necessary and will pay itself off with convenience and protection if there is a leak or a burst line. The only time I come across a set-up without angle stops is when it's a wall mount faucet.
