About a year and a half ago we remodeled our bathroom. Our contractor installed a Hansgrohe ThermoBalance Bathtub Valve. It has a little knob in the center that mixes the water to the desired temperature. We have had a lot of trouble with the handle on this device becoming harder and harder to turn, and in fact the plumbing contractor (the sub for the general contractor) has already replaced it once. None of the factors the Hansgrohe rep notes as contributing to a stiff turning handle apply: no high mineral content in the water (our water is very soft) and no hot water temps over 140 degrees. We remodeled in order to make our bathroom easier to use as we get older, but we're afraid this sticky handle will be impossible to turn soon! The plumbing contractor is try ing to find out the answer. The worst case scenario is ripping out the shower wall and installing a new valve----which is horrifying to think about. Does anyone have any experience with this valve?

Usually I can take the cartridge apart and lube the internal worm gear to make it work smoother.

Could you post the valve body number? The trim may be what is causing the binding.

Hello, and thank you for your input. I think the trim is called "Stratos" and it is numbered 06579XX0 but it also has a "round escutcheon" numbered 88538XX0 in the booklet that came with the fixture. The handle is definitely a "Stratos" numbered 88530XX0. Does that help?

1. cartridge 88585000
thermostat cartridge 94282000
The pressure balance valve might be Axor 13408181

silicone paste is wonderful, when removing cartridge remove one thing at a time checking for when the stiffness loosens, use same in reverse when reassembling at some point the stem will stiffen, that is your problem.
