I generally run in the 115 range.

Wood floor manufacturers will tell you what temperature you can operate without voiding their warranty. Usually it's between 80*F - 100*F, I have not seen any that allow above 100*F.

I have run 120*F under existing oak flooring (not newly installed) without any trouble.

A lot of this depends on the type of installation. If you have heat transmition plates, you run a lower temp than if you are using a true "Staple up" or the standoff clips.

It's not often that you will exceed 120* on any, and you'll be around 100*-ish on a plate job.

Insulation below the floor is IMPERITAVE! as is about 1-1/2" air space between the insulation and floor.

You are not going to get much thermal efficiency with 80 degree water.

True, in my opinion operating temperatures below below 100*F are useless in acomplishing the effect of a radiant floor. Even at 100*F supplemental heat usually will be needed to support the radiant floor. The wood flooring manufacturer's are merely protecting themselves from liability by stipulating lower temperatures. That's why tile floors (higher temps) offer the most bang for the buck in radiant applications, customers, after spending a lot of money, want to feel a noticable difference at their feet.

the more sophisticated systems vary the water temperature according to the outside temperature.
ideally, the floor temperature stays around 85 degrees. this will give you maximum comfort. just what temperature water is necessary to achieve the 85 degrees can't be answered as there are too many variables.
my experience with this is based on cold new england winters. other climates will be different.

That's what a good radiant design with a heat load calculation and outdoor reset will cure. If you can't aford a good design might want to stick with some other form of heat.
