 Vent a away toilet seats
Author: wshennings (NJ)

I have a loose American Standard elongated vent away toilet seat. I am at a loss as to how to tighten the seat down. Most, ( if not all) seats have a cover over the bolt/screw that pops up providing access to same. Does anyone know how to get accesss to the bolt/screw on this type ?

If not from waaaaaay underneath then you access the hardware from under the toilet lid, (inside of the tank).

The only one piece toilet I know of with Vent-Away was the Roma Series
(2009.017) which used the 3530..857.XXX seat with cover. The seat had covers over each fastener. Lift the snap cover and use flat screwdriver on top with deep socket for underneath to tighten.

You have to tighten the nut on the bottom of the bowl. If a one pipe toilet the nuts are inside the tank and very hard to access with most wrenches.

There were also two piece toilets with the Ven-a-Way, but the Roma/Luxor seats I am familiar with have a molded hinge which includes the bolt. Tightening is from below.

BTW, that is one very expensive toilet seat, and that's for a white one. Some of the other colors are made of unobtainium.

Almost everything about the Vent-Away toilet is expensive except for the typical rubber
flush valve seat disc. It must be one of the most over-engineered toilets ever made.

But I do like the challenge when repairing one cool smiley
