 long spout needed?
Author: oldradio99 (IL)

We are in planning stages of a bathroom model and are just beginning to purchase all the materials needed.

We had planned on using an American Standard tub model 2425L, However, if you look at the tech drawing of the tub, it appears to be 10 1/2 inches form the edge of the tub (wall) to the center of the drain.

Where am I going to find a wall spout (or even a deck mount spout) that is 11-12" long?

Help! This is the last step in solving this problem.

its 10" to the center of the drain, but you dont need the spout to go that far...also most time you deck mount a faucet it goes on the side..it doesnt look like its more than a couple of inches from the side into the tub...

any plumber you hire should know about this problem and steer you towards the correct faucet...just get one with a far reach...

Ill also give some advice that you didnt ask for...dont buy American Standard...its really a bad product! for the same money you could get a Aker which would bring you up to builder quality..A.S. is Home Depot quality.

Opinions on plumbing fixtures are very subjective. I have no problems with the A/S 2425L tub. Just be sure to set it in a bed of mortar mix for maximum stability. This would be true of any tub of this type. I believe that Gerber makes a long spout that would look nice with this tub.

You won't and don't need one. All you need is a spout to reach over the edge of the tub, not to the center of the drain.

There is no deck to mount a faucet on with that tub. It is a wall to wall recess installation, usually.

a deck mount on the tile around the tub...any brand faucet with a long reach will work...its rare around here to use a wall mount mixer on a whirlpool tub...always deck mounted on the fiberglass or tile...

wall mount doesnt have the same luxury look to it...a deck mount looks classy..

Normally the only deck mount faucets I do are on "drop in" tubs with tile around the perimeter. Tubs with tile flanges for alcove installation, like this one, usually do not have surfaces to mount the faucet on.

That model is definitely for alcove installation. And the drain side deck is only 2-7/8" thick. Subtract 1-3/8" for sheetrock and tile and it's down to 1-1/2". Allowing for an overflow lever, I'd say a standard 6" spout would clear. Anything longer could get in the way.
